Not Adapt

“Gurus should not adapt the Dharma to the needs of busy materialistic people who demand a business-like method for receiving teachings that fit into their lifestyles. Were that to happen, far too much that is crucial to an authentic spiritual path would be lost.”  ~Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche

The first thing I thought of was Christian preachers teaching the “prosperity gospel.”  Basically, they’re telling rich people that they’re rich because God wants them to be rich.  (Billionaire Jean Paul Getty once said– without intending to be ironic– “Money is God’s way of saying, ‘This is my beloved son with whom I am well pleased.'”)

The second thing I thought of was Fox News, which tells their audience that they are right about everything and anyone who disagrees is certainly stupid and probably evil.

There is a lot of money to be made, telling people what they want to hear.
