Some songs take two completely different subjects and jam them together. For some reason, I really enjoy that. Here are three examples:

  • Southern Accents, by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, is a nostalgic look at Southern culture and a lament for a dream that didn’t come true (YouTube) (Lyrics)
  • First of the Gang to Die, by Morrissey, is a poetic look at love and a biographical sketch of a charming ne’er-do-well (YouTube) (Lyrics)
  • S.L.U.G., by The Ramones, is the story of a lover’s regret and of finding a slug crawling on him (YouTube) (Lyrics)
